    Tender Blow Out
Okay, so I'm sorry that i don't really have many specifics, but Electrelane are going out on tour this spring and taking Tender Forever with them. I'm just so excited that I had to tell someone. They have at least two dates confirmed:

    May 15 Irving Plaza NYC
    May 16 Paradise Theatre Boston

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better along comes The Blow to open! These shows are definitely worth flying out for, so I hope I can round up the money. Of course, it would be awesome if The Blow goes along for the whole ride too.

Tender Forever has mentioned some likely cities they might hit like the obvious suspects NYC, Montreal, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Vancouver, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, and Washington DC.

She also threw out the possiblitly of stops in Cleveland, Minneapolis, San Diego CA, Tucson AZ, Denver CO, Kansas City MO, St Louis MO, Pittsburgh PA. I'm hoping for a Texas date or 2!

So, if anyone has any pull, please whisper Texas in their ear.

"BOSS" Bonus Post: KRLA's JAY STEVENS...uh...STEVE JAY ???

When Shadoe Stevens joined KRLA (Los Angeles) in September 1970, there was management talk of ordering morning man JAY STEVENS to switch BACK to his pre-Los Angeles KMAK (Fresno) and KGB (San Diego) air name STEVE JAY, so there would not be TWO "Stevens" on the same lineup.

Artwork was drawn up with both "Jay Stevens" and "Steve Jay" if Jay Stevens had to go back to "Steve Jay."

After management tossed around the idea for several months, the name change brainstorm was scrapped, and Jay Stevens AND Shadoe Stevens BOTH peacefully coexisted on the same daily lineup.

    Future Padre - Updates
Alfonso Soriano supposedly wants a Carlos Beltran-like 7 year, $119 million contract. The Washington Post says, “It's unlikely the Orioles will be in the running for Soriano if he doesn't back off those demands.” At an average of $17m per season for 7 years it’ll be interesting to see who stays “in the running.”

The Cubs want Aramis Ramirez back. Also, he is reportedly the number 1 target of both Los Angeles teams… On an aside, it is amazing how quickly Angels owner Art Moreno made the Angles the dominant team in the Los Angeles area.

Gary Sheffield impending move to a new team is nearly complete. Supposedly Brian Cashman has a deal in place with one of following clubs: Cubs, Phillies, Rangers, Indians, Padres, Giants, Braves, and Astros. "Sheffield reportedly will complain publicly if dealt, but over the years, the right fielder has said he would welcome a return to San Diego," according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

The Indians’ Kevin Kouzmanoff has been playing first base in the Arizona Fall League. If Indians’ brass do not think Kouzmanoff can handle the hot corner, but want to keep his bat in their lineup at first base, then this move diminishes the likelihood that either he or Andy Marte will be traded.

Snitching, Hip Hop, and the War on Terror
Two helpful readers brought these snitching-related items to my attention:

Snitch or leave the country: A Los Angeles Times feature while I was on vacation told the story of a Moroccan man threatened by the FBI with deportation if he refused to become an informant at his mosque ("Pressured to name names," Aug. 7). No evidence was ever brought against the fellow save for allegations by unnamed informants that he'd made statements about the US government which would be protected if he were a citizen. He fought the FBIs demands and went public, ultimately winning his court battle. Others, says the article, have fought and lost. But think how many thousands must have succumbed to similar pressure? According to the Times, terrorism investigations are based on snitches more frequently than other types of traditional police work:
Informants have long been key to criminal investigations. But they are usually used merely to turn up leads. Agents then accumulate other evidence or follow through on their own, undercover.

Terrorism cases, in contrast, are increasingly built solely on informants.

Rand Corp. terrorism expert Brian Jenkins said the reasons are varied. The FBI lacks agents with language and ethnic backgrounds to infiltrate potential jihadist groups. Pressure has mounted to intervene before terrorist acts are carried out. And would-be terrorists now favor "local initiatives beneath the radar of international intelligence," he said, making investigation of homegrown groups much more critical.

The recent arrests of seven Miami men who allegedly talked of blowing up Chicago's Sears Tower, for example, stemmed entirely from the work of an undercover FBI informant who posed as an Al Qaeda operative.

Still, problems with informants in high-profile cases have underscored the perils.

The informant, and star witness, in a botched Detroit terrorism prosecution allegedly told his cellmate that he had lied. The case unraveled after an investigation revealed prosecutors had withheld that and other key information from the defense.
Damned if you do: See Temple Professor Marc Lamont Hill's "Barbershop Notebook" from PopMatters.com in February on the "hip hop community" and what he calls the "stop snitching campaign." (I'm not sure it's a "campaign" so much as a "meme" - if it's a campaign, then it's one that's arisen from the bottom up with no identifiable leadership.) Writes Hill:
While it is certainly problematic to condemn all acts of communication with authorities, it is equally shortsighted and irresponsible to advocate an absolute pro-snitching position.

The act of snitching necessarily creates a social and ethical quagmire in which an individual must sacrifice one set of loyalties for another. More specifically, the potential snitch is forced to choose between competing ethical codes and social commitments when making their decision. Often, this process entails deciding between locally defined rules and larger, more official ones. For example, Lil' Kim's refusal to identify her crew members as assailants during a shootout at the Hot 97 radio station was an anti-snitching gesture that privileged her friendship bonds and street ethics over the established laws of the land regarding obstruction of justice. While it is tempting to condemn all such acts on moral or ethical grounds — in this case, arguing that Kim should have protected the interests of the assaulted and not those of the assailants — it is necessary to consider the validity and value of the particular rules and issues at stake on a case-by-case basis.See other Grits posts on snitching.

    Worth a read this weekend...
Preventing the Death of Mediation by Los Angeles mediator Jeff Krivis, is a sobering message for those of us in less mature mediation markets than West Coast United States.

This piece, while a little black hat for my taste, reads well, especially in the context of the current debate around unpaid mediators in court connected programs.

'...What has happened in the last several years is that mediation has learned to need litigation to maintain its hunger for business.

In the early cycle of the mediation movement, the opposite was true. Litigation needed the process of mediation to decongest the court system, presumptively save money for clients and allow more control of the outcome to the parties.

Mediation has now become a commodity for litigation rather than a useful resource.

Due to the proliferation of mediators and the reliance on litigation to feed this animal, mediators are forced to conform their practices in a way that limits development of strategic techniques and creativity.

This conformity means that the mediation "product" has become a low margin commodity in many circles. Mediators copy each other in style and lose their ability to differentiate themselves.

Even the high-priced mediators begin to look like their litigation counterparts, basically offering the same service.'

    Local "Ethnic Cleansing" Verdict: GUILTY
Tatoo selection can be more important in a criminal trial than jury selection.

One rookie mistake is to have the slogan "43 Kills for Thrills" tattooed onto your head.

That very mistake helped convict Alejandro Martinez in federal court on Tuesday, along with three fellow members of "a Latino gang in Highland Park" charged with "unleashing a barrage of assaults and killings to push African Americans out of the predominantly Latino community in northeast Los Angeles."

Apparently the gang wasn't familiar with the parol board's opinion of the swastika that Charles Manson carved into his forehead.

Anyway, since this verdict proves, beyond a reasonable doubt, that we have ethnic cleansing taking place right here, right now, could City Hall please hire enough police immediately, or must we wait for a U.N. peace-keeping force?

Do not be fooled the Minutemen are a racist organization
After reading the reports today on the news wire and the Blogs I have come to only one conclusion . The minutemen are a racist organization.

The responses by the police against those who would openly protest against the MInutement in Hollywood yesterday and also those who would just be there to monitor the situation by taking photos and filiming , tells me that something is extremely wrong with the way this minutemen group is being allowed to march and be protected in such a manner.

Check out the video at kcal 9 news to see what this is all about.

    Chicago

Good Article from the Star telegram in aggieland Texas

To learn more about who the real minute men were look here...

Go here to really learn who the Minutemen really are...

We know that when the left liberal protesters have their protests , there are counter protestors that show up , yet they are allowed to counter protest , yet these left wing counter protestors aren't even allowed to be on the sidewalks.

This kind of thing is very scary and it is very telling of what could happen in the future., if this immigration debate is not settled. It is frightening to think that now that latinos are becoming a majority in the Southwestern United States , that more racist groups will begin to spring up all over the country in the guise of the militias .
IS this going to become a revolutionary war ?

Watch Td Hayes Sing about Rockets Red Glare and Bombs Bursting in air

Ted Hayes wouldn't know what the site of Bombs BUrsting in the air and our flag still being there is all about.

I used to have respect for this guy , but now I don't .

The Bottom line is that these people don't want brown people here in this country.

    Understanding Section 907
Since it is Friday, and the presentations shall run long in City Council it is easy to understand how some can forget or misunderstand the laws that govern them. So, as a public service today I have decided to provide a refresher course to our esteemed residents of the 4th floor of Section 907 of the Los Angeles City Charter.

    Sec. 907. Early Warning System.

The Regulations shall establish procedures for receiving input from neighborhood councils prior to decisions by the City Council, City Council Committees and boards and commissions. The procedures shall include, but need not be limited to, notice to neighborhood councils as soon as practical, and a reasonable opportunity to provide input before decisions are made. Notices to be provided include matters to be considered by the City Council, City Council Committees, and City boards or commissions.

For those of you who seem to have difficulty with this, this does not mean you come up with a hair brained motion on Friday for Tuesdays council meeting and then wonder why Neighborhood Councils are honked off. Since the City has ruled that Neighborhood Councils are covered under the Brown Act (an act the City Council has had difficulty in following) that means that there is no legal mechanism for a Neighborhood Council to respond to a short noticed motion, and absolutely no way to respond to a "Special Meeting" notice.

So is it a coincidence that so many motions before City Council are "time limit files" where they are heard on the last day to act? And how would the City Council allow time for every item before it to have input from Neighborhood Councils as the Charter states? Remember, the Charter makes no exceptions.

The bigger question is, what part of open government does this City Council not understand and what, if anything, are the Neighborhood Councils and/or the NC Congress going to do about it?
